I love this photo of a field of hundreds of sunflowers, yet one distinctly distinguishes itself by standing tall above all the others.
Isn’t that what we are trying to do throughout our lives? When a toddler takes her first steps, she has distinguished herself and arisen from babyhood. When a 13-year-old boy gets a tattoo (unbeknownst to his parents), he is trying to distinctly distinguish himself among his peers. When the young executive gives her Power Point presentation which she has worked on for two months, she is very distinct in trying to distinguish herself as the person in the sales team most deserving of a promotion.
Yes, some of us spend much of our lives being individuals who hope to be unquestionably and distinctly someone very special from the masses and deserving of high regard.
But really, aren’t we all the same? As this one sunflower shines above the rest, doesn’t it look almost identical to all of the others? So are we! It’s perfectly fine to work hard at bettering ourselves, always striving to be the best we can be. But remember that we are all the same deep down inside. We are all sparks of the same Divineness reaching for a common goal. What do you think that goal is?
